The "cradle" of Saxony, as Meissen is often called, looks back on a history of more than 1,000 years. The city was founded by the German King Henry I, who had a castle built near the Elbe River during a campaign against the Slavs in 929. The famous Meissen Porcelain Manufactory houses in its exhibition hall the most extensive collection of Meissen porcelain from its beginnings in 1710 to the present day. Learn interesting facts about the production of the "white gold" during a guided tour in the show workshops, before you can visit the unique exhibits in the show hall. Afterwards, a leisurely walk through the narrow, medieval alleys, past picturesque Renaissance houses, rounds off the excursion.
Visit the capital of Saxony-Anhalt today. Magdeburg already looks back on 1,200 years of eventful historical past. As a former imperial residence, Hanseatic city and Prussian fortress, the city repeatedly experienced war and destruction. Fortunately, special attention was paid to the preservation and maintenance of cultural assets during each reconstruction. These include the historically significant cathedral and the monastery of Our Lady. During a short stop at the town hall you will also see the Guericke Fountain and the market square with its Golden Horseman. Afterwards, the bus will take you past magnificent houses from the Wilhelminian period and the Romanesque monastery Unser Lieben Frauen, to the impressive Hundertwasser House. You will also see the Magdeburg Cathedral of St. Maurice and St. Catherine.
