Cassis
Mooring 8:00 am Casting off 11:00 pm Excursion to Aix-en-Provence. Excursion Package

Leaving the harbour of Cassis, you will drive to Aix en Provence, the Capital of Provence. Upon your arrival, your guide will take you on a walking tour passing by The Cours Mirabeau: this broad avenue, shaded by trees, is the hub of Aix. A green tunnel of foliage protects against the hot Provençal sun. Built in the 17 Century on the site of the medieval ramparts, the Cours Mirabeau originally had no shops or boutiques. On the right side stand the aristocratic façades of the old hotels with their finely carved doorways and wrought-iron balconies supported by caryatids or atlantes from the Puget School. One of the most beautiful fountains is undoubtedly the natural hot water fountain covered with moss, dating from 1734. You will also enjoy many other sites that this lovely city has to offer.

Excursion to the Château Gassier with wine tasting.

After about one hour of driving, you will join the Estate of Gassier. Chateau de Gassier occupies a privileged position, in perfect harmony with nature, the vineyards of Provence stretch from the Mediterranean coast towards the north of Nice. Nestled in 40 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the Mount Sainte-Victoire and just a few kilometres from Aix-en Provence. Originating from Barcelonnette (Hautes-Provence) and part of the Provencal nobility since 1421, the Gassier family bought Château Gassier and its 40 hectares in 1982. Today the vineyards are managed by Georges Gassier, who represents the fifth winegrowing generation of the family, working with his father’s support. It is only over time, that passion, hard work and know how combined have helped Château Gassier to develop its exceptional potential for excellence. In 2010 Château Gassier decided to take the first step towards organic viticulture. Since then, parcel after parcel, they work the land, don't use chemicals and take care of the vineyards along its rules.

Portofino
Hiking excursion to Santa Margherita Ligure.

This scenic hiking tour departs from the tender pier passing through town by the trendy boutiques and shops that surround the charming Piazzetta and the waterfront. Walk by the church, before you reach the hiking path: depending on weather and paths conditions, the first half of the tour is mostly uphill, walking towards Cappelletta, San Sebastiano and Olmi, to reach then Molini; the path leads the way through the Mediterranean flora, with fancy villas, vineyards and olive groves. Alternatively, you can walk towards Paraggi along the breathtaking coastline where the hills and the seaside live harmoniously together. Then, hike up towards Acquaviva and Molini, where an old olive oil mill has been renovated, currently housing a little museum and a tiny cafè with amenities. Vegetation surrounds the medieval dwellings, and the cliffs drop off to the crystal clear ocean, making this one of the most beautiful locations of the Riviera. Continue towards Santa Anna and Nozarego to finally start the walk down to the main promenade of Santa Margherita Ligure. Santa Margherita's forms, colours, the arrangement of its characteristic houses, its luxurious villas and grand hotels all seemingly painted around the bay produces something of a magical reflection. Then, you will break for a refreshment at a local cafe and have some time to browse the shops before boarding your van or the ferry for the return journey to Portofino or to extend your stay in Santa Margherita to make your way back to the ship later on. NOTE: This is a "real" hike, and while the pace is not too brisk.

Excursion to Ravello

Passengers will enjoy a beautiful and panoramic drive, up from the harbour in Amalfi to Ravello, one of the most famous and popular locations on the Amalfi coast. As you enter the main square, you will see the “Duomo“. The very linear facade conserves from the original Romanesque outline three “oculi” and the “window” with two lights above the entrance portal, decorated with a classical marble cornice, it has a valuable bronze door made in 1179 by Barissano da Trani. On the right-hand side of the church, you will find the bell tower, built in the 13th century. When the “Duomo” is open guests will be able to take a peep inside at the majestic marble pulpit, richly cased with mosaics friezes and columns, supported by six slim spiral posts resting on marble lions. Guests will visit Villa Rufolo, a spectacular complex formed by the main “palazzo”, built in the second half of the 13th century, and various buildings in Arabian-Sicilian style on a wide terrace facing the gulf. After entering the smaller 14th-century tower, guests will continue along a small avenue flanked by cypresses and then reach the Moorish courtyard, decorated with friezes and arabesques, in front of the palazzo, which can only be visited in part. Having passed the knights room, the picturesque “Belvedere” opens up, a luxurious garden with pines cypresses and exotic plants. From here it is possible to descend to the lower terrace, also bright with flowers and exotic plants. The spectacular nature of the gardens particularly struck Richard Wagner and saw in them the materialisation of the magic garden or Klingsor in his Parsifal. Some free time will be given to browse and shop around, among the incredibly friendly inhabitants of Ravello. You are advised to have a taste of the local wine, one of the best produced in the region, thanks to the optimal climate conditions.
