The city of Sète is located in a unique site and is set like a pearl between the Mediterranean Sea and the Thau lagoon. It is perhaps because of its unique geographical configuration that Sète has an excellent reputation for local recipes based on “Terroir” products. This walking tour will allow you to discover the most typical districts of Sète along the main canal, where you will feel a special local Mediterranean atmosphere that will remind you of Venice.... During the second part of the tour, your guide will lead you to discover the covered market which is the meeting place for many local people who like to buy fresh local products and chat with their friends. You will meet some stall keepers and taste local products, like the small octopus pie with a glass of white wine, or taste some fresh oysters from the Thau lagoon, or taste the local biscuits called “Zézettes”, and much more...

Sète (Schiff auf Reede)
Excursion to the Canal du Midi

Upon your departure from Sète, you will take the coastal road to Béziers and then the locks of Fonserannes. Here, you will board a boat to travel along the Canal to Béziers, one of the most famous sites on the Canal du Midi. During the navigation, we will discover the beauty of a canal flanked by more than 10,000 trees. The trip will end after having gone down the small village of Colombiers. Pierre Paul Riquet, a native of Béziers, Baron of Bonrepos and Languedoc tax-farmer, built it at his own expense during the 17th century. In 1996, The Canal du Midi was recognised by Unesco as one of the most beautiful examples of World Heritage.

Departing from the pier, you will enjoy a panoramic drive through the Avenida del Puerto to the Gran Via and Calle Jativa, from where you can see the Bullring and Central Station. You will also see the Central Market, an enormous metal, ceramic tile and glass Art Nouveau building built in 1928, with its 1300 stalls of fresh fish, meat and fruits, selling products from all over Spain. The Valencia of today is defined by the City of Arts and Science, complexly designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. The City of Arts and Sciences is a unique complex devoted to science, technology, nature, and art, and is made up of five segments or centres: the Hemisfèric, the Umbracle, the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, the Oceanográfico and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía. A stop at the Silk Exchange monument is a must, called La Lonja where the old quarter walking tour will begin. Admire this UNESCO World Heritage Site, declared in 1996. It is a Valencian Gothic-style municipal building, built between 1482 and 1548, and one of the principal tourist attractions in the city. This building illustrates the power and wealth of one of the great Mediterranean mercantile cities. Enjoy the charms of the streets of the Valencia, squares (such as the "round square") and hidden corners. Walk around the main streets of the commercial city centre where we will have time to taste the “horchata”.
