Visit to the Peterhof Palace with its beautiful parks. Excursion Package

Peterhof Palace and Gardens situated on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Finland, Peterhof Palace is a study in majestic splendour, with its lovely yellow and white exterior and gilded trimmings. The wide variety of fountains at Peterhof is the principal feature of the park. Elsewhere (notably in Versailles) all the surviving fountains are classical in design. Not so at Peterhof, where their extravagance and sheer playfulness give us a vivid idea of the atmosphere that must have reigned in a park of this kind during the early 18th-century. Perhaps the most significant technological achievement of Peterhof is that all of the fountains operate without the use of pumps. Water is supplied from natural springs and collects in reservoirs in the Upper Gardens. The elevation difference creates the pressure that drives most of the fountains of the Lower Gardens. Most famous is the Grand Cascade, with its golden statue of Samson prying open the jaws of a lion. The Samson Fountain is supplied by a particular aqueduct, over four km in length, drawing water and pressure from a high-elevation source. From there, water flows down terraced steps leading from the Palace down to the Lower Gardens. Spouting fountains spray streams of water over marble statues, culminating in a man-made canal leading out to the Gulf of Finland. Several fountains are designed with the specific purpose of soaking visitors. Two take the form of gangly trees rigged with jets that activate when someone approaches. Another, disguised as an umbrella with a circular bench set around the stem, drops a curtain of water from its rim when someone enters to take a seat. In addition to exploring the Palace grounds, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the sumptuous interior and marvel at the opulence of the Throne Room, the Portrait Room and the White Dining Room, Chinese Rooms.

Visit to Catherine Palace with a visit to the world famous Amber Room.

Catherine's Palace is considered to be one of the masterpieces of the architectural world. The lavish imperial Palace was designed by architect Rastrelli in 1752 for Empress Elizabeth. She named it in honour of her mother, Catherine I, who originally owned the estate. The next ruler to leave her mark on the Palace was Catherine the Great, and during her reign, she commissioned the Scotsman Charles Cameron to redesign the baroque interior according to her neo-classical taste. The famous Green Dining Room is considered one of his best. Cameron's restrained neo-classical style contrasts with the baroque flamboyance of Rastrelli's work.Of Special interest is the Amber Room that was once considered to be the "Eighth Wonder of the World". In 1983, serious work on recreating the Amber Room was undertaken. Preserved photographs and Archives helped the Russian art experts to Fashion thin amber pieces so that they exactly match the original in shape and Color and to carve fine Ornaments, thus recreating this legendary work of art.
