Guided tour of Potsdam Excursion Package

We drive through Potsdam’s historic city centre with its finely restored buildings, past the Dutch Quarter with its attractive gables. On our way to Cecilienhof Palace we pass the Glienicke Bridge, which played an important role in the Cold War. We take a stroll through the palace park before going on to the Summer Palace of Sanssouci. Fredrick The Great had this palace built in order to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, to live without cares (sans souci) and to immerse himself in art, music and philosophy. We have a guided walk in the beautiful park before transferring to the ship.

Casting off 1:00 pm Island tour of Wollin including the cosy Miedzyzdroje Baltic resort and a short organ concert in Kamień Pomorski cathedral.

Take the opportunity and come with us on a round trip across the Polish island of Wollin. The north-western part was declared a national park due to its unique flora and fauna. You’ll visit a number of places, including the traditional Miedzyzdroje Baltic resort with its attractive resort architecture, which up until the middle of the 19th century was a minor fishing village. With the discovery of the brine springs there, it was promoted in the second half of the 19th century to a seaside resort attracting mostly well-off visitors from Berlin and Szczecin, who built their villas here. “The Pearl of the Baltic Sea” with its fantastic sandy beaches and magnificent villas from the Wilhelminian period is once again enjoying great popularity these days. You’ll also stop off in Kamien Pomorski, where after a short stroll, you’ll visit the cathedral. The excursion culminates in a short organ concert.

Casting off 9:00 am Usedom island tour to the elegant Ahlbeck seaside resort, with its characteristic, turret-crowned piers, and Heringsdorf with the longest pier along the Baltic sea (dep. Wolgast /arr. Peenemünde).

By the 19th century, Usedom was already a popular summer holiday destination for the wealthy bourgeoisie and nobility due to its fine sandy beaches, woods, small lakes and tranquil lagoon countryside. Both the wealthy middle class as well as the nobility enjoyed life in the Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin seaside resorts. The numerous houses in classical style of the “spa architecture” still give you a hint of the glamorous atmosphere of days gone by. Where once the Mann brothers, Gorki and Tolstoi walked, today’s excursion will take you past impressive Wilhelminian period villas, distinctive Albeck pier crowned with turrets and the longest pier in the Baltic sea in Heringsdorf. The pier with its restaurant pavilion is Ahlbeck’s distinctive landmark and a popular setting in films and TV.
