A short bus ride away from the north bank of the Danube is the most important pilgrimage in Lower Austria: Maria Taferl. On a hill you can find the Maria Taferl Basilica, the Lower Austrian national sanctuary of the painful Mother of God. The sacred building was built around a shrine of the Virgin Mary. The name "Maria Taferl" is derived from this. According to tradition, there were already two miraculous healings in this place in 1633. In the following years, miracles and angelic apparitions were repeatedly reported in this place. You will visit the pilgrimage church and enjoy a panoramic view of the Niebelungen-gau. Back in Ybbs you will see the old ship's master's house, where today the art gallery "Atelier an der Donau" is housed. Marvel at paintings and sculptures by artists from all over the world. You are welcome to actuate the printing press yourself. The excursion concludes with a tour through the small streets of Ybbs old town, where you can still see the earlier wealth.
