Copenhagen is one of the most historic cities in the Baltic region, and on this introductory tour of the Danish Capital, you will explore close to 850 years of recorded history. Enjoy the view from your deluxe coach as you pass the City Hall Square with the City Hall. Pass the Glyptotek Art Museum with an impressive collection of art. Further on, travel past the Christiansborg Palace, home of the Danish Parliament and the Queen's Reception rooms. On the other side, you'll have the old part of Copenhagen lining one of the city's many canals. Pass the old Stock Exchange - a building in Dutch Renaissance style, with its spire of entwined dragon tails. Drive through the colourful canal area of Nyhavn, once a disreputable quarter of the city frequented by sailors and consisting of bars and entertainment of questionable taste. It is now a most charming part of Copenhagen, with brightly coloured houses along the canal. Amalienborg, the royal winter residence is the next site to be seen. Four identical rococo palaces surround the sizeable octagonal palace square. One is used as the residence of Queen Margrethe II; the second was the residence of the Queen Mother who died in November 2000, the third accommodates the Crown Prince, and the fourth is used for visiting royals. Say hello to the world-famous statue of the Little Mermaid who watches over Copenhagen harbour at Langelinie.

Stockholm
Excursion to the Baroque Drottningholm palace.

Drottningholm was the first Swedish site to be placed on the World Heritage List. It was chosen because it is regarded as the best-preserved example of an 18th-century palace in Sweden and is representative of all European royal architecture that used Versailles as its model. Situated on an island in a small inlet of Lake Mälaren west of Stockholm, it has been the residence of Sweden's Royal Family since 1981. Work on Drottningholm Palace was initiated in 1662 according to the design of Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. Upon his death in 1681, the project was completed by his son Nicodemus Tessin the Younger who also designed the French-inspired Baroque Garden. Work on the Palace involved some of the finest artists of the age. Visit the magnificently decorated State Apartments, and enjoy a stroll in the surroundings including the French and English style landscaped gardens. Following your visit, enjoy a panoramic drive further exploring the Royal island of Lovön offering perfect views of the surrounding rural environment and fresh-water Lake Mälaren before returning to Stockholm.

St. Petersburg
Casting off 6:00 pm Visit to the Peterhof Palace with its beautiful parks.

Peterhof Palace and Gardens situated on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Finland, Peterhof Palace is a study in regal splendour, with its lovely yellow and white exterior and gilded trimmings. The wide variety of fountains at Peterhof is the principal feature of the park. Elsewhere (notably in Versailles) all the surviving fountains are classical in design. Not so at Peterhof, where their extravagance and sheer playfulness give us a vivid idea of the atmosphere that must have reigned in a park of this kind during the early 18th century. Perhaps the greatest technological achievement of Peterhof is that all of the fountains operate without the use of pumps. Water is supplied from natural springs and collects in reservoirs in the Upper Gardens. The elevation difference creates the pressure that drives most of the fountains of the Lower Gardens. Most famous is the Grand Cascade, with its gold statue of Samson prying open the jaws of a lion. The Samson Fountain is supplied by a special aqueduct, over four km in length, drawing water and pressure from a high-elevation source. The Cascade is aptly named; water flows down terraced steps leading from the Palace down to the Lower Gardens. Spouting fountains spray streams of water over marble statues, culminating in a man-made canal leading out to the Gulf of Finland. Several fountains are designed with the specific purpose of soaking visitors. Two take the form of gangly trees rigged with jets that activate when someone approaches. Another, disguised as an umbrella with a circular bench set around the stem, drops a curtain of water from its rim when someone enters to take a seat. In addition to exploring the Palace grounds, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the sumptuous interior and marvel at the opulence of the Throne Room, the Portrait Room and the White Dining Room, Chinese Rooms.
