Melk has been a spiritual and cultural center of the country for more than 1.000 years. During an interesting guided tour, you will learn more about this impressive and famous Abbey with its magnificent Baroque architecture. The Benedictine monastery became also known literary by Umberto Eco's novel "the name of the rose". The imposing Baroque building is a visible expression of the importance of the baroque monastery. The tour of the monastery impressively conveys the former significance of the monastery. After the tour, you will have the opportunity to explore the outdoor facility yourself before the bus picks you up to return to the ship.

In Vienna, coziness is very important, that’s why you have to plan the time you want to spend in Vienna. Enjoy a wonderful evening with music and wine at a typical Heuriger (wine tavern). Heuriger is not only the name for these quaint Austrian taverns but also for the young wine. The excursion price already includes one drink.

Classical music concert in Vienna

There is a reason why Vienna is called “The City of Music”. The bus will take you to one of the best chamber orchestras in the musical world of Vienna. Excellent opera singers, talented musicians and graceful solo ballet dancers will let you experience the warmth and charm of the lovely Vienna. This performance takes you on a journey through time, to experience the imperial Vienna, where the beautiful compositions from the likes of “the Waltz King” Johann Strauss and W. A. Mozart, will leave you amazed. Your evening will be filled with swinging waltz melodies, polkas and operetta melodies of the highest artistic level. The trip on the Ring Road back to the ship forms a perfect conclusion to the lovely evening.

Today, the traditional Danube metropolis Vienna is on the program. The bus will take you along the Uno-City and Danube Island. You will see impressive buildings such as the state opera, the Burgtheater, the Hofburg, Parliament, town hall and Votive Church along the famous Ring Road. During a guided walk, you will experience the special atmosphere of this charming city. During your visit of a typical coffeehouse you can also taste the famous Sachertorte, a special chocolate cake.

Visit of Schönbrunn palace with its gardens

The magnificent Schoenbrunn Castle is definitely worth a visit. It is a masterpiece of baroque culture and art. You will have the chance to visit the castle and learn more about the former summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty. Esztergom, formerly known as Gran, was once the capital of Hungary. The first Hungarian king and founder of the Nation, Stephan I. was born here, according to a legend. Budapest

Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is also called the "queen of the Danube". During your city tour by bus and by foot you will see for example the castle district with the fisherman’s bastion and the Matthias Church. Afterwards there will be a short photo-stop on Gellerthill to enjoy a wonderful view over the city.

Budapest
Excursion to the Puszta with a traditional display of horse-riding

You will be welcomed with schnapps and salty pastry at Cszárda. Afterwards you will learn more about the Hungarian cowboys called Csikos during their horse show where they demonstrate their traditions. Feel free to explore the stables and surroundings of the farm later on and enjoy some local products during a little snack-break.

Budapest
City stroll “Impressions of Budapest” and a ride on the oldest underground of the European continent. Time for your individual trip on shore.

Today you will experience Budapest up close and from a new point of view. While exploring the Hungarian capital by foot and metro, sights like the Parliament Buildings, St. Stephen's Basilica and the small squares and passages with beautiful statues and buildings from many different eras, will make this a day to remember. You will also have the opportunity to discover the hidden corners and the unique atmosphere of the city, away from the hustle and bustle as we guide you to the lesser known, but beautiful areas of the city. After taking a journey to the past on the oldest electrified underground railway system on the European continent, which is only possible in Budapest, you will hop in the metro and travel to the Unicum Museum while enjoying the beauty of the Danube river.At the Unicum Museum, a captivating guided tour awaits you, there you will learn about the Zwack family and how this legendary drink is made. Unicum has been produced in Budapest since 1892 and all the while the recipe has stayed a well-guarded secret. To top this excellent day off, you will enjoy a tasting, before heading back to the ship.

Close to the border to Austria and Hungary, Bratislava lies in the fertile Danube plain south of the Little Carpathians. First you will have a short bus tour that will take you up to the Fortress. You will be impressed by the wonderful panoramic view over the city. Learn more about the interesting history of the fortress which used to be the residence of numerous Hungarian kings in the past. Afterwards you will explore the beautifully restored Old Town with its baroque buildings such as the Redoute, National theater, the Town Hall and palaces which remind the visitors of their glorious past during k.u.k. monarchy. Among other things, you will also get to know probably the most famous man of Bratislava, Gullimann Cumil.

Not to forget the impressive Holy Trinity column. Afterwards the bus will take you up the Freyenhill where you will have an amazing panoramic view over the region.
