Natural harmony of the Danube Delta.

Today we explore the Austrian capital of Vienna with its wealth of tradition. Starting from the landing stage, we pass by “New Vienna” with the UNO City and the Danube Island. See magnificent, imposing buildings such as the Vienna State Opera, the Burgtheater, the Hofburg, parliament, the town hall and the Votive Church as we drive along the famous ring road. A guided tour follows, where you can get first-hand experience of this delightful city and its world-famous Viennese charm. After about 30 minutes of free time, the bus for your return journey will be waiting for you, taking you back to the ship past the Praterstern and Handelskai.

Past the Petrovaradin Fortress, you’ll travel for about half an hour through the hilly landscape of Fruska Gora (holy mountains), a mountain range 80km long and up to 20km wide. The holy mountains are home to 17 monasteries. The best-known of them is the Krušedol monastery, which is situated in the middle of a birch forest. In this monastery, you can find out in detail about the Serbian Orthodox religion. On the return trip, the bus will take you into the city centre, where you will disembark and explore on a stroll through the old town, which has been wonderfully and colourfully restored. Enjoy the youthful flair of this city in the pedestrian zone before going back to the ship.

Just on the border with Austria and Hungary, Bratislava is situated in the fertile Danube plain south of the Little Carpathian Mountains. You could describe the Slovakian capital city as “small, but beautiful”. The old town was lavishly renovated with great attention to detail. When visiting Bratislava, you’ll initially travel for about an hour through the embassy district to the castle (Hrad), which sits high above the city and is considered the city’s landmark. You’ll stop to take photos there and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view over the city. You’ll also get more detailed information here about the eventful history of the castle, which was the long-time residence of numerous Hungarian kings before Maria Theresa settled down there and the castle experienced its heyday. Afterwards, you’ll continue your journey to the old town and the start of your guided tour. On the approx. 1.5 hour stroll together through the old town of Bratislava, you’ll see the Reduta, the national theatre, the town hall and some Baroque palaces and the city gates, which bore witness to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. You will also get to know probably the most famous man from Bratislava, Cumil the sewer man.
