Mooring 2:00 pm Excursion to Guimarães.

Discover Guimarães, the former medieval capital of Portugal, rich in history and magnificent buildings, The historical centre in the area that was within the Guimarães city walls is associated with the formation and identity of Portugal. The city still has a harmonious, well-preserved heritage that is evident in the graceful iron verandas, granite balconies and porticos, mansions, arches connecting the narrow streets, paving slabs smoothed by time, towers and cloisters. For a moment, you might imagine yourself to be in a mediaeval setting, where the nobility built their houses over time, such as the Mota Prego house, the Vila Flor and Toural palaces, and the many others that give Guimarães its unique atmosphere. Considered a “must visit” city by The New York Times for 2012. Travel through time as you visit the 15th century Dukes Palace, which houses a museum and art gallery with portraits, tapestries, fine furniture and porcelain. Walk towards the town’s centre, UNESCO heritage, to discover its quiet corners, narrow streets, a former manor house and a 10th-century church situated in the main square. There will be free time to browse around and discover more about this marvellous town. On your way back to the coach, take a glimpse at the castle’s tower bearing the inscription: “Portugal was born here”.

Explore the world – safely!

For us, the safety of the guests and crew on board our ships always comes first – especially in these current times. In 2020, we proved that our safety and hygiene practices work when we were the first cruise operator worldwide to get our ships going again in June. Our proven measures meet national and international health standards. We have summarised the key facts for you in our 10-point plan.

For our ocean cruises we will introduce the so called 2G regulation, which stands for „Geimpfte and Genesene“ and means vaccinated and recovered persons on October 27, 2021 on VASCO DA GAMA and for WORLD VOYAGER from October 29, 2021. On our river trips, the 2G regulation applies with the start of the winter season from November 29th, 2021.

This means that on our cruises from the dates mentioned, only fully vaccinated or recovered guests travel in accordance with the 2G rule. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the 2G regulation. They must present a negative PCR test, which must not be older than 72 hours at the time of entry.

This year, we are again pursuing our passion to offer you unforgettable holiday experiences, showing you the most beautiful spots on the river and along European coasts. Come on board!
