They are composed of salt water and clay mud with a very high content of sulphur. Portimão
Excursion to the coastal towns of Lagos and Sagres in the Algarve. Excursion Package

We will depart for a half day tour on the western coast of the Algarve. The small town of Sagres is close to the most south-westerly point of Europe known as Cape St. Vincent. The legend of the martyr Saint Vincent is that two ravens guarded his remains on the way from Valencia, where the Roman Emperor killed him, to Cape St. Vincent by boat. Ravens defended the remains until they arrived in Lisbon in 1173, that is where it is to this day. Although, it is much more likely that it was moved to Lisbon upon the orders of Dom Afonso Henriques. You will also visit Prince Henry’s fortress close to Sagres, just before driving to Lagos. Lagos is a town linked to the Portuguese Discoveries’ History. The Romans gave the name of “Lacobriga” to the town, but its natural river port indicates an earlier occupation. In 1189 it was captured from the Moors, but it was not until 1242 that Dom Sancho II finally claimed it and integrated into the kingdom of the Algarve. This historic town has played an essential part in the story of the discoveries and the conquest of the rest of the world. It was the capital of the Algarve for a short time during the XIV century, from its port, maritime expeditions departed to discover the world.
