Honfleur
Mooring 1:00 pm Casting off 6:00 pm Guided tour on foot of Honfleur. Excursion Package

Honfleur is definitely worth a walking visit. The village is mainly known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterised by its houses painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur (Honfleur school) which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. Vikings from Nordic countries established this harbour both open on the Seine River leading to Paris and on the Ocean about a thousand years ago. Fearless seamen from Honfleur used here their outstanding knowledge for making ships and applied it to the building of their church in the 15th-century. Many older houses are also tokens of their ancient know-how. Therefore the city has a unique charm of its own. It is also the place from which Champlain sailed off in 1608 to lands which were to become Québec. Much later Honfleur became famous for attracting daring and forward-looking artists such as Boudin at the origins of Impressionism. Artists, being magnets for one another, lured writers to this little city as well. This small city is also renowned as the hometown of the musician Eric Satie.

Southampton
Day trip to the mysterious stone circle of Stonehenge and to Salisbury.

One piece of magic that never fails to cast a spell over visitors is the awe-inspiring sight of Stonehenge. This mighty symbol of pre-history is a wonder of the world drawing thousands of visitors each year to witness its awesome majesty. Simplicity, solitude and a powerful air of mystery surround this enigmatic and ancient circle of stones set in isolation. Pay a visit to the brand new visitor and interpretation centre to learn more about it and hop on the land train, which will take a few minutes to transport you to the stone circle. Situated in a vast plain, surrounded by hundreds of round barrows, or burial mounds, the Stonehenge site is truly impressive, and all the more so, the closer you approach. It is a place where a lot of human effort was expended for a purpose we can only guess at. Some people see it as a place steeped in magic and mystery, some as a place where their imaginations of the past can be fires and others hold it as a sacred place. We leave the unsolved mysteries of silent Stonehenge to the mists of time and continue the short distance to Salisbury whose lofty cathedral spire can be seen from many miles distance. By the end of the 15th-century, Salisbury had already achieved a maturity which compels us, despite the fact that it has never ceased to grow since, to think of it essentially as a medieval city. For most of its life, the city has been dominated by the power of the church, and we walk with our Guide through the centre to view the charming 13th-century cathedral enshrining 700 years of English history. We see the fine buildings within Cathedral Close which itself provides a perfect setting for the beauty of the cathedral, and the nearby grid streets containing black-and-white half-timbered houses.
